The band America was formed in London in 1970 by Dewey Bunnell,
Dan Peek, and Gerry Beckley. All three were sons of US Air Force
personnel stationed in the UK. Their self-titled debut album, 'America,'
was released in 1971 and became an instant success, propelled by the
hit single 'A Horse with No Name.'
The album's cover art features the band members alongside images
of Native American figures, reflecting the band's name and their
exploration of American themes. The album was a commercial
triumph, reaching number one on the Billboard charts and selling
millions of copies worldwide. It remains a classic of the early 1970s
so
rock era, showcasing the band's signature harmonies and
introspective lyrics.
