Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) emerged from the late
1970s Liverpool music scene, pioneering synth-pop with their
experimental sounds and intellectual lyrics. The band was formed by
Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys, who shared a passion for
electronic music and avant-garde art. OMD quickly gained
recognition for their innovative use of synthesizers and drum
machines, creating a unique blend of melodic pop and electronic
experimentation.
'Brides of Frankenstein' was released during OMD's commercially
successful period in the mid-1980s. The song showcases the band's
ability to blend catchy hooks with deeper, more introspective themes.
As a 12" single, it often included extended mixes and dub versions,
catering to the dance music scene of the time.
