Ars Longa Vita Brevis is the second studio album by the British
progressive rock band The Nice, released in 1968. It showcased the
band's fusion of rock, classical, and jazz elements, solidifying their
reputation as pioneers of progressive rock.
The album's title, Latin for "Art is long, life is short," reflects the band's
ambitious musical vision.
The album features complex arrangements and virtuosic
performances, particularly by keyboardist Keith Emerson. The Nice
were known for their experimental approach and their incorporation
of classical themes into rock music. This album is a quintessential
example of late 1960s progressive rock, capturing the era's spirit of
innovation and experimentation. The album remains a significant
work in the progressive rock canon, influencing countless musicians
and bands.
