Exile on Main St. is a studio album by the English rock band the
Rolling Stones, released in May 1972. It is considered one of their best

The album was recorded primarily in the basement of Villa Nellcôte,
Keith Richards' rented mansion in Villefranche-sur-Mer, France,
during the band's self-imposed exile from the UK to avoid high tax
rates. The cover art, featuring a collage of photographs, reflects the
album's gritty and eclectic nature. Exile on Main St. has since
garnered widespread critical acclaim and is now regarded as one of
the Rolling Stones' greatest works.
